Dear Chloe,
I am completely frustated with my student's parents. Few of couple days ago, I handed the student enrollment paper to her grandma. And this student, has been taught by me for two terms, and well it was very disappointing to know that this girl couldnt catch up the lesson as quick as her classmates. So since it's now her second last term in the level, then I thought it might be better if I demote her. Well the things that she cant catch up are not about one or two parts, there are plenty of them. So I thought it was best for her to retake the whole term. But! Mommy went angry!! When she, my student passed me the paper back, I saw that mommy ticked the box 'no' for the question "Do you wish to continue studying here?" . Okay it didnt stop till there, I was even more shocked when I saw what she wrote in the comment box.. ' Guru yang sekarang kurang memperhatikan murid-muridnya.' which means that the teacher who is teaching now doesnt pay attention to her students. And I was like 'What the heck?!!' I was totally pissed off and blew up. I felt so UNFAIR..! Whadya know from how I teach and what I did in the class?? You dont have the right to judge like that, thinking bout what your ma in law told me, that you never keep an eye of your daughter. And now, when you feel like your daughter is gonna fail the term, than you blame it all on me ??! Hey, am the one who takes care of your daughter when she's at school, am the one who teaches your daughter. I think the more I read it , the more obvious the fact that you're now ashamed ,and you blame me. Hey dudette ive taught your daughter since a term ago, and hey if it's really I didnt take care of your daughter , then would your daughter be promoted?? Or would she socialize pretty well with her friends like she does now??? Use your jelly bear to think! Your daughter isnt like others, she's really really a quiet girl. She didnt even want to talk when I first met her. Do you know how hard I tried till now she slowly changes into a cheerful girl ??!! You never know that! And now that she might be fail, you put the blame on me! Do you think am happy to see my own student failing because she cant catch up the lessons as fast as the others?? Then you're wrong! I tried my best to teach her, and I told your ma in law the truth, so you, the one who stays at home or goes to work could know your girl's problem and help me the teacher to solve it, like finding extra private teacher at home to teach her, because honestly, if only us, the teachers at school who teach , but you dont help her to do revision at home, then it's useless. I dont intend to be harsh, I am also a woman, I know how you feel whenever you're working so late and when you got home, you heard about how you girl performs at school. For God's shake, Ive taught here for 3 years, so I know it well! I tried hard to teach your girl too, I believe that every kid will learn, but not in the same day and time. If not today, then maybe tomorrow. So please abide us as the teacher, we also try our best to work it out. You know what? The proudest thing that a teacher feels is when her students could accomplish even the smallest task and the biggest failure that a teacher feels is when she sees one of her student cant put over with a good score. So please. We understand you as a parent and you too have to try to understand that being a teacher is a hard role to play for.
Honestly, I bursted into tears when I told my head of study, but at last I felt easeful after she told me the principle of how to be proffesional. So still, I love my job, and I hope this is the first and last student that I'll demote, since my classes would always pass with high scores. :))
